What I treat
Most patients arrive with one specific complaint. These are the conditions I treat most often — including day-case treatments that avoid conventional surgery altogether.

Day-case treatment that avoids conventional surgery for most people — radiofrequency, HALO/THD or eXroid, chosen to suit the grade and how quickly you need to be back on your feet. Most patients are at work within days, not weeks.

An accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist. If a symptom needs a definite answer, a diagnostic scope is usually arranged within the same week — and the result is explained by me, in person, not posted to you.

Including complex and pelvic disease, with robotic and keyhole resection wherever it is the right choice for you. Urgent reviews are prioritised, and you are looked after by the same surgeon from diagnosis through to recovery.

Inguinal, umbilical and incisional hernias, including robotic-assisted abdominal wall reconstruction for the more difficult ones. Smaller incisions, less pain afterwards, and a faster return to lifting, driving and work.

I qualified in 1994 and trained in general and colorectal surgery in the North West of England, before completing a doctorate at University College London and an advanced colorectal fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the United States.

How it works
01Call, or send the short form. My secretary answers the phone herself — no call centre, no queue — and comes back to you with appointment times, usually the same working day.
02In person, by video or by telephone. We go through your symptoms and history, I examine you if that is needed, and you leave knowing the likely cause and what the options are.
03Any tests are arranged quickly, and the results are explained by me rather than posted to you. If treatment is needed, you get a written quotation before anything is booked.

Not always. Many patients arrange a private consultation directly. However, most insurers require a GP referral letter before they will authorise treatment, so if you are claiming on insurance it is usually worth getting one first.

Most patients are offered an appointment within a few days, and urgent cases sooner. Diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy are usually arranged within the same period.

Always contact your insurer for pre-authorisation before your appointment — they will give you a claim number, which my secretary will need.
We talk through your symptoms, how long they have been there, and your medical history. Depending on the problem an examination may be needed — done privately, with a chaperone available if you would prefer one.
You will leave with an explanation of the likely cause, what tests are sensible, and what the treatment options would be. Nothing is booked on the day unless you want it to be.
Yes. I offer face-to-face, video and telephone consultations. Remote appointments work well for discussing results, reviewing progress after surgery, or a first conversation about a problem that does not need examining straight away.
Yes. I am a consultant colorectal surgeon at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead minimal-access colorectal surgery and the enhanced recovery programme, and chair the patient safety committee. My private practice runs alongside that NHS work.
